about me

In A Few Words

Hello, I’m Ben. I’ve been working as a chartered architect for 15 years, and love working with clients to create unique, thoughtfully designed spaces.

I completed my BA(Hons) in Architecture and Landscape in 2007 at Sheffield University before gaining experience in practices in Buckinghamshire and London. During this time I worked on one-off houses, domestic extensions as well as high end multi-use developments and hotels.

After further study at Sheffield University I gained my MArch in Architecture in 2011. Following this I worked in Harrogate and then Northamptonshire on projects including university schemes, new schools and school buildings. I progressed to team leader and later Associate for a large regional practice where my team delivered projects from planning to completion with construction contracts in excess of £30 million.

Most recently I have been working as Design Manager for a practice delivering residential schemes for small and medium sized developers as well as one-off homes and extensions for homeowners.

This background has given me  a keen eye for detail and strong spatial organisation skills to rationalise built form and deliver client briefs.

about my work

Design Approach

I believe the delivery of a successful project relies on collaboration between all those involved - the end user, the designers and consultants and later the builder who will deliver your new home. This process starts with getting to know you and what you need from your project, then understanding your site and existing home, the surrounding context and what makes that place special all before any decisions are made on what should be done. These early considerations are key to making sure you get a project that is unique to you and delivers a home that functions how you need it to.

Through this process my designs are considered, thoughtful responses to brief and context which do not have an imposed  style but are a response to their setting and function. High quality, natural, robust materials, the use of natural light, a fabric first approach to sustainability and attention to detail are important elements to my design ethos and what I believe will help to make your home a place you love to live.

If the above sounds like something you are interested in get in touch and tell me about your project. I look forward to hearing from you and making a start on creating your new home.
